BENILDEANS! The contract with our current agency for security guards will end this Saturday, June 30 2012. In line with this, a petition via signature campaign for the absorption of our current guards into the new agency is being passed around. The form is also available at the Alumni Office, 9th floor SDA Campus. Help us in gathering at least 1,000 signatures by Saturday to have our petition be taken into consideration. Let their service for the Benildean community continue on for the coming years.

Rather than “unpopular” heroes I think it’s better if we call them as “everyday” heroes, as Dave Mariano suggested. :)
In all honesty, I do not know them by name. We usually call them as kuya guards, kuya maintenance, ates and such. And in my 3-4 years studying in Benilde, they have helped me in many ways possible.
I had those days when I go to school and I’m in such a foul mood; and then when I enter the SDA building, these kuya guards greet me with a smile or sometimes with silly faces to make me laugh.
There was also a time when I left my phone at home (out sheer of stupidity), and I was in a state of panic; and these kuya guards knew my group of friends, so they told me that my friends went on ahead to the cafeteria and were waiting for me there.
And then, there was also a time when I dropped off Carla’s envelope full of important OJT documents in the lobby, and the ates there wouldn’t take it even though I said I was in a hurry. I begged the kuya guard to keep it and give it to my friend, and he was okay with it.
There were also those times when I’m waiting for my cousin to come pick me up at night, and he’s taking awhile (as always), and these kuya guards will talk to me to keep me company.
….. and many many more.  These people were with me throughout my college years. These people were not only guards and other school personnels to us. These people are our friends.
If you’re going to school today or tomorrow (Saturday), please don’t forget to sign the petition form at the Alumni Office, 9th Floor SDA Campus and share/re-blog this message to the Benildean community! :)
